DAVID SLATER a British wildlife photographer once visited Indonesia, saw a bunch of Macaques(monkeys) they looked interesting to him and started clicking their pictures, after that he was busy in some work leaving his gadgets on the floor of jungle meanwhile a monkey in that group grabbed his camera and took a selfie, He used this photo in one of his Magazine which went viral and made him popular in the photography society. This picture was used by Wikkimedia Commons and Techdirty in some of their articles without his ascent. Mr.David Salter put objections on them claiming that he got the legal rights of this picture and they negotiated saying it was clicked by a monkey and not by him. PETA(People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) has jumped in and filed a case against him as “next friend”(one who files case instead of very young ,in sentence of jail or incompetent to file a case)in United States of America alleging that according to photography laws “who clicks the shutter only own the rights of it” the monkey is legal owner of that picture. This case had run for several years in the court till 2018.David Slater had made an unofficial agreement with PETA accepted to pay some part of his future earnings for welfare of animals and jointly requested the court to strike off the case. The court rejected their request and finally in 2018 came up with their judgement that animals are not eligible for legal rights and legal rights are given to David Slater and PETA was bashed very badly by the court for filing this for their personal motive other than welfare for animals. In fact, this photo has promoted the protection of Macaque’s worldwide but PETA unfortunately put their legs in trouble waters. Mr. David Slater has said I earned 2000euros with this picture and had to pay 11000euros for all this issue.
